Limited Space Small Bathroom Designs With Showers
Summary: Limited space small bathroom designs with showers
- Maximise wall space by using floating fixtures (e.g. sinks, cupboards, boilers) to free up floor area and improve usability in small bathrooms.
- Smart storage solutions, such as cupboards above appliances and under sinks, help fit other essentials such as washing machines without overcrowding the room.
- Corner walk-in showers are ideal for compact layouts, making efficient use of awkward or tight spaces.
- In rectangular bathrooms, placing the shower at one end or opting for a doorless / wet room design can save space.
- Wet rooms eliminate bulky enclosures and reduce mould risk, but safety should remain a priority given the high rate of bathroom accidents.

When you have limited space to work with, the key thing is to make use of the walls wherever possible. It isn’t going to be possible to have everything fixed to the floor.

For example, the bathroom above is small without any big cupboards, but still needs to house the boiler. The owners have come up with an ingenious solution by fixing it above the door and laying it sideways.
You’ll also note that the sink is floating. A floating sink creates space underneath while still offering the storage space that a pedestal sink doesn’t have.
In this case, there’s room for your feet to go underneath while washing your hands. You could keep slippers underneath the sink too and use the small cupboard to store cosmetics and other bathroom items.
There’s also a hook above the sink to hang up a wash towel.

This bathroom also manages to cram in a lot of stuff – including two cupboards, a washing machine and some decorations.

If you don’t have a utility room or enough space in the kitchen, the washing machine probably needs to go in the bathroom. But that doesn’t necessarily mean a massive restriction on your space for other bathroom items.
There’s a cupboard under the sink and another floating one above the washing machine in this example, with room still for some small plants to brighten up the room. The heated towel rail is relatively high up, leaving space for the lowest one to dangle.
It goes without saying that corner walk-in showers are your friends when designing a small bathroom. Find out how much a walk-in shower costs.

But what if you have a more rectangle space to work with?

In this example, the walk-in shower takes up the end of the room.
Behind the door there’s a window and a toilet roll holder – that’s all ok because you don’t need to use these things while the shower door is open.
Just close the shower door if you need to access them. Alternatively, you could remove the shower door entirely for more of a wet room design.
Wet rooms
Wet rooms are fully waterproof, open-plan bathrooms with no enclosure, designed so the whole space can be used for showering, with a sloped floor for drainage.

That means you don’t need open and closing shower doors that take up needless space in a small bathroom. You don’t even need a shower curtain (which is a magnet for mould anyway).
